New York Exchange Program
In collaboration with president Stein Bjelland of Great Moments, Nordic Music Week is planning a trip to New York City with the goal to educate and inspire artists, studio owners, producers, and engineers from Stavanger.

Bjelland and US producer/engineer Ashley Stubbert have been building a relationship between the Clive Davis Department of Recorded Music and Stavanger University’s own recording program. From the 3rd – 6th of November 2009 they will be taking a group of delegates of studio folk, musicians, and songwriters to New York to work in the Clive Davis recording facilities, meet and greet top producers, and visit some of New Yorks top of the line studios and engineers.

The following week they will be bringing back the top three students from NYU to work with three Stavanger bands in three Stavanger studios for three days. Their productions will be presented Thursday 12th in the morning to kick off the program series of conference. Then those involved will participate in the Nordic Music Week conference where discussions on the state of the industry will take place in an open forum between top Scandinavian and US producers along with additional workshops offered by some of these guests. Program follows.

Two of these producers are renowned producer and engineer Nick Sansano who has worked with ground breaking artists such as The Bomb Squad, Public Enemy, Ice Tea, Sonic Youth, The John Spencer Blues Explosion and Danish producer Carsten Heller of Nephew, and Veto fame. Sansano will give a master class on mixing and recording drums with an emphasis on compression. These two will join in seminar discussion to discuss the industry at large, and shed light on the studio scene in Scandinavia.

Also coming to NMW is the award winning technical journal Sound On Sound, who will be writing a feature article about studio acoustic repair using Thomas Dybdhal`s studio at Tou Scene as an example on Wednesday. They will also hold a seminar on the transition of the recording business from the standards of the BBC to the current status along with a technical Q&A following.
