Hugh Robjohns of Sound On Sound

Hugh Robjohns left university in 1983 with a BSc(hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and joined the BBC as a video engineer. After a year he transferred into operational work and progressed up the ladder in TV sound (studio, location, and post-production) and in on-line video-editing for news and features programmes. Eventually Hugh moved on to the BBC’s technical training centre and worked there for seven years as a lecturer in audio operations.

Hugh started writing reviews and feature articles for pro-audio magazines while lecturing, and when the BBC decided to down-size the training department he accepted a redundancy package and took up writing full time. Hugh is currently the Technical Editor of Sound On Sound magazine, a columnist in its sister Performing Musician publication, and Editor of the journal of the Institute of Broadcast Sound called Line Up (www.lineup.biz).

Hugh continues to provide occasional training on a freelance/consultant basis for the BBC and several other major broadcasters in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, and also manages to get out and record acoustic music performances on location now and again!
